Airvana Quadruples EV-DO RNC Capacity and Performance
New RNC 9000 Leverages ATCA Carrier-class Platform to Address Increasing Data Demand On Mobile Operator Networks
Chelmsford, MA, June 28, 2010 —
Airvana today announced that the company’s new EV-DO Radio Node Controller (RNC) technology is now generally available for deployment in mobile operator networks. The RNC 9000 combines Airvana’s deployment-proven, feature rich EV-DO RNC software with a carrier class ATCA hardware platform. The new technology is designed specifically to address mobile operators’ needs for the features and performance required to tackle the demands on the network caused by ever increasing data traffic.
Fully compliant with all 3GPP2 EV-DO standards, the RNC 9000 delivers more than four times the capacity and performance of earlier generations of the company’s RNC technology with the ability to scale to even greater levels – as much as 10 times– as data traffic increases. By deploying the RNC 9000 on a NEBS-compliant ATCA platform, Airvana can offer its customers not only high capacity, but also the redundancy, five nines reliability and cost-effective operations and management sought by mobile operators.
“The RNC 9000 gives mobile operators the means to address the increasing demand for mobile data in one of the most efficient, reliable ways possible,” said Harjot Saluja, vice president of EV-DO product management, Airvana. “Mobile operators can now deploy fewer, higher capacity RNC’s to handle their data traffic, and the built-in scalability provides ample headroom for future growth.”
Fully backward-compatible with earlier generations of Airvana RNC technology, the RNC 9000 provides mobile operators with highly flexible and cost-effective deployment options. The ability to upgrade the network only where needed ensures that a wholesale “rip and replace” strategy is not required, minimizing both cost and time to deployment while maximizing value.
